Discover the stunning Machine Falls trail, a 60-foot waterfall that drops nearly equal in length across, located in the picturesque Short Springs Natural Area near Tullahoma, Tennessee. Machine Falls emanates from a hidden cave and is thought to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region. Named after old sawmills that once operated nearby, this spectacular cascade is the crown jewel of a 420-acre natural area featuring multiple waterfalls and scenic trails. Trailhead Location: 1 Powell Road, Tullahoma (at the water tower). Don’t miss Rutledge Falls just a short drive away. Feel free to submit a trail and pictures.

- Complete Loop (all waterfalls): 3.1-mile loop combining Machine Falls, Adams Falls, Busby Falls, and Laurel Bluff trails.
- Hiking Time: Average 1 hour 19 minutes for complete loop
- Elevation Gain: 416 feet

What to Expect: Most of the hike is an easy woods walk, but there is a steep staircase to reach the falls. After reaching the branch junction, the trail to the base of Machine Falls requires careful footing along the creek. The area features an observation platform with panoramic views of Machine Falls and the valley below. Creek crossings may be required depending on water levels.
- Parking: Extremely limited parking (approximately 12 spaces) at water tower; overflow and off-pavement parking prohibited to limit eco-damage; wade-able creek areas
- Dogs: Allowed on leash
- Picnic Areas: No designated picnic facilities
- Cell Service: Limited to no cell service expected

- Best Time to Visit: Late winter/early spring for peak water flow, and spring for wildflowers
